The bird and 'streamers' are made from a fractal fire material which do make for some neat effects.

Thanks. As I told :devaburnier; the bird and 'streamers' are made from a fractal fire material. The night sky is one of the spectral skies, which are slow to render but well worth the final results.

Ah, you've never heard of Stravinski's Firebird, obviously [link]
Don't know if you're interested in classical music but this is one of his best compositions, along with Le Sacre du Printemp (The Rites of Spring), which, if you've ever seen Disney's Fantasia you will have heard.
